First Giveaway: Running the Edge by Tim Catalano and Adam Goucher!

I am so excited to announce my very first giveaway on See Jane Run!  It is the new release (and by new I mean HOT off the presses and mailed September 1) by runners and authors, Tim Catalano and Adam Goucher.  I stumbled upon their blog, Run the Edge, about a year ago and it has been a source of inspiration and entertainment ever since. 


Olympian Adam Goucher and Tim Catalano team up to share a unique running philosophy that breaks the mold of traditional running books. By tapping into the transformative power found in the distance run, Running the Edge inspires readers not only to push their limits as runners, but as human beings in a relentless pursuit of excellence in everything.

  1. HA! I get to be first! YAY! Running has made me healthier and happier. I feel great. I love how I feel when I am done w/a run. Sweaty, tired, and energized with a feeling of accomplishment. I, also love the new friends I have made through running. It is a great way to make and keep friends. It is fun to share a run with my mom and sis.

  2. Started running Cotton Row Run 4 years ago, but it took 3 years and NOBO for me to keep it up. Finally moved from running 2 x a week to almost daily and a long run once a week. And what a difference it makes! I feel so much better!

    Running really has been my life since I finished my first 10k at the age of 4. It has been my rock through my life and the only thing I have known. Now in mid life with children I hope to pass on some of this knowledge to the younger generations.

  4. I ran my first 5k in the 4th grade and from there I feel it took me in the right direction at the right time in a young girl's life. I grew up in a small town and experienced peer pressure that goes hand in hand with living in a small town without much to do. Instead of giving in to the pressure I turned to running. I started having success and loved the way it made me feel, confident, accomplished, and determined. After high school I received an academic and athletic scholarship and was able to receive an education. Without my running it would have been tough for my family and me to afford college. Since graduating I have not stopped running and continue to pursue my running dreams. It has opened up so many doors for me, helped me meet my now husband, and brought me into contact with the most amazing people. God willing I plan to run the rest of my life!   5. Running saved my life. I started running @6 just to be with my older brother. Then as I got older I learned to run jr high and high school it became a huge sense of accomplishment. Kept me out of trouble and from dropping out of school. Without running in my life things would have tuned out very different. Now running is a daily part of my life that I get to share with friends and family of all abilities.

  6. My running experiences with my small terrier change every day we go out. She will bite the leash, chase ducks, try to fight bigger dogs, take multiple bathroom breaks, jump in the lake, or sniff something nasty. I love how she makes a straight path seem like something curvaceous, adventurous, and challenging. Congrats on the book, I'm looking forward to reading it. (mark_unca@hotmail.com)

  7. hey! i dont know if its only u.s. so i try. i'm from Canada and i'm a new runner since January. i run 3 to 4 days a week, 3 to 4 miles each. Love to run, always search for advice,tools,motivation.... really want to read that book!

  9. I have been a competitive runner for 31 years. I have experienced many highs and lows but the love of running has always stayed with me. I have run from grade school thorugh college and competed in the 2004 Olympic marathon trials. I have come back from 7 stress factures and ran through 2 pregnancies. Now as a masters runner I have new goals. I would love to read the book for one thing I do know there is always things to learn! thank you

  10. I have been running for almost 30 years. Off and on, but I started when my youth director at church suggested that I go out for the high school cross country team. Running has been great for me and now I am passing it on to my daughters. Kristin Armstrong said it best; "When my children were young, I ran for my sanity, I ran for myself, I ran to set a good example because they watched me move. Today they move alongside me. We run because we can. That IS why I run.

  13. To say running has changed my life would be an understatement. It has transformed my life. I started running in 7th grade and then left to pursue other interests. In 10th grade I picked it back up and have been doing it ever since. Now as a senior in high school running cross and track I've taken a lot from it. The lessons I've learned from running are able to be applied in everyday life. I'm looking at furthering my running and hopefully running in college and beyond.

  14. I have been reading books about running since I have began running 7 years ago. I love learning about the mechanics, what works for other people, what DOESN"T work for other people.. I soak up as much as I can from any runner that I talk to. This book would be another addition to my knowledge =)

  17. I started running about a year ago on the treadmill as another way to burn calories and loose weight. I enjoyed running so much that I decided to enter a 5K race. After the 5K I was hooked, the feeling I had crossing the finish was amazing. My daughter and husband were at the finish line cheering me on and it felt awesome!! I have since ran 3 more 5K's then moved up to the 10 and have completed 3 so far and have 2 more comine up in September! I am planning on moving up to the half next year. Running has changed my life! I LOVE it! And I would LOVE to win Adam and Tim's book! Jill Chamney

  20. I am a high school cross country runner in san francisco and have been running for 5 years. Running with the buffaloes has been one of my favorite books of all time and adam goucher has been one of my most inspirational idol as a runner.

  21. Running has changed my life in many ways. As a kid I was always the hardest worker on the field day in and day out, though my lack of talent and size hurt me in making the team for many sports. Then I found distance running and have been running varsity every year since in high school. I love running as it is a sport that truly rewards hard work as many of my races have ended in vomit and total exhaustion. My grades went up as my running did, and I plan to run in college and place well at our state meet this season.

    Come run the best micro marathon in the USA. Seattle Ghost Marathon, great aid, soup, hot dogs and beer afterwards.

  24. I started running after my daughter ran XC in high school. Joined a great Women's running team (coached by Adam's high school coach, awesome lady!) Running has giving me a chance to have something just for me and be able to meet lots of other runners!

  27. Hi Jane, Love your blog and love reading anything I can get my hands on that has to do with running. You (and your Mom) are such an inspiration to me! Anyway, I started running about 2 years ago. I am an "older" runner, so I started out mostly walking and eventually added in some running here and there. Well, that was until my first 5k in March last year, oh boy was I hooked! Since then I have participated in several 5k's and two half marathons. I have another half scheduled for September 24 in Nashville. I mostly run now, with a little walking added in here and there :-)

  28. Gosh, in just about every way possible it's changed me! I keep re-writing this sentence as it's hard to put it all into words! I just started running last year, ran my 1st race (4 mile) in July and somehow was convinced to train for a full marathon at the finish line... Blasted runners high!! I certainly wasn't the fastest, but 4 months later and I did it! 26.2 miles! Failure was my greatest fear, but I conquered! The inner strength I've gained from that 1 day is irreplaceable! It's given me purpose and fulfillment, kept me moving through the rough times, introduced me to a whole new world where I was welcomed with open arms by the strangers at my local running club (now best friends!) and I have never felt such strong camaraderie! It's helped my health and self esteem and centered me! It's also helped me put into words what I now see are some of the basic principles of life. I've learned that I am strong, capable, determined, passionate, resilient, and just a little crazy! I look forward to many future years of running! I could probably write my own book about the joys it has brought and continues to bring me!

  29. I started running about ten years ago after I walked a 5K. My goal was to be able to run the while thing the following year. I did!
    When I was younger I was told I would never be a runner due to some hip issues. After three marathons, a 50K, and countless half marathons, 10Ks, 8Ks, and 5Ks I think it is safe to say I proved them wrong!
    Running has made me more fit, healthier, a more patient person, and has brought me closer to my family (especially my sister) and even contributed to my recent marriage (met my now-husband through a friend and he was impressed that I was running the next morning).
    Running has changed my life and put me on a path that has made me unbelievably happy and it has formed new friendships in my life and strengthened many relationships. I cannot imagine a life without running...even when I am not running!

  30. I chugged through the winter and most of my 35th year on this planet overweight and inactive. It was time to make a change. I got into a fitness class, got active, got running. Started March 1. I'd never run more than a mile in my life. Mid-May, ran my first 5k. Mid-July, ran a 5k adventure race up a mountain.

    Next month, I'll race in a 10k. Since March 1 the combination of running and weight training has allowed me to drop 40 lbs, to where I'm about the same weight I was coming out of high school. I went from considering myself the most out of shape person in most crowds, to one of the most in-shape. It's awesome. Crossing the line after completing that adventure race in 95 degree weather was the most satisfying accomplishment of my life.

  31. Being a military spouse for 28 years you would think that I would live a healthy lifestyle but that was not the case at all. Having to move every three years, change jobs, make new friends, help the kids adjust to a new school, neighborhood and home; I found that I didn't have the time to make myself healthy and happy so I just trudged along feeling sick and helpless. When my husband finally retired and moved us here to Huntsville I decided that I needed to do something for myself for a change so I started walking then running a bit but I never stuck with it. Finally I found the No Boundaries Program! I have made dozens of friends and I found that I Love to RUN! It makes me feel great, I love the runners High you get after finishing a 5K, 10K or half marathon and I love the people who run alongside you at any given moment. Runners are very special people and they make great friends. I no longer take three medications I was told I would be on the rest of my life. I have one more medication to go and I will be drug free! I have lost weight, made friends and most of all I have found out that I am a pretty okay person and I don't have to rely on my husband to make friends for me. I can do it all by myself!

  32. After running in high school and college, I stepped away for a couple of decades. But recently, in an effort to be a better parent and example to my 6 year old daughter, and to have something in my control that I could succeed at, I came back to it.

    By finally appreciating the entire process of regaining my health and fitness, running has given me each of those things and something much bigger. I have learned that it's the process, and not the goal, that really matters. This is truly helping me to improve my approach to many areas of my life. So thank you to running!

    I run because I feel I can't ignore the gift I was given. I've been running races since 5th grade. Running gives me so much more back..that when the natural me want to sleep in, I remember that I never regret a run or the time spent doing it.

    I gave-up the chance to run in college, feeling burned out at the time. I took my gift for granted and after a few years was able to find it again and even coach high-school x-c for 3 years. I admit I don't run everyday. I juggle 3 kids, time w/ my husband and run a business, but am working my way back into shape and love including my kids on cool downs. I'm reminded of being pregnant 3 times and just itching to be able to run baby free again. It's an amazing feeling and one I don't want to take for granted as long as I am physically able. Being able to run truly is a gift.

  35. Running has impacted me in a lot of great ways. I've been running for a long time, and I used to do most of those runs solo. That changed in 2009 when I met my running girls. Those friendships are the best things running has given me. They are all tremendous women of faith, and they have made me a better runner and a better person. I look forward to many more years of running with them.

    How has running transformed me?
    1. I didn't pray much at all. Now, I pray anytime I run alone and mostly about others to keep my mind off of myself.
    2. I was socially awkward before running and now I work in sales and love being around people.
    3. I was 240 lbs. and had health problems. Now I'm 160 lbs. and healthy.
    4. I didn't know how to blow a snot rocket before I started running. Now I'm pretty good at it! :) Okay, maybe I'm still a little socially awkward. :)

    Right before I graduated college and got married I gained about 30 lbs in 3 months. I've never been able to lose that weight in the past 6.5 years. I became embarrassed and lots of times didn't want to be social due to it. I've now had 2 children and find it hard to have "me" time. Last year I started running and the Liz Hurley 5k was my 1st race. It was extremely difficult but I finished with a time of 34:01. I said I would never race again! A few months ago I decided to give it another shot since this December I'll be 30 years old. I want to be in the best shape of my life when I enter the 30s. I have to say that I've been bitten by the running bug and love my "me" time early in the mornings and how strong I've become. My husband started running last year too and just yesterday my 4 year old ran her first race in the 1 mile fun run. I love that our whole family is active and it gives me such confidence as a wife & mother. In 3 weeks I'm running my first half-marathon in Nashville and even though I haven't ran it yet, I'm still so proud of myself and how hard I've worked. :)

  38. Running has changed my life dramatically! I started running in 2008 while I was undergoing treatment for an eating disorder. Running has turned into my mediation. It clears my head and allows me to think through problems. I've learned to eat with a purpose of fueling my running instead of restricting my eating for weight control purposes. I had also smoked as a method of weight control before. When I started running in 2008 it gave me a reason to put down the cigarettes. I haven't looked back since my C25K in April of 2008. I run 30 miles a week and have run 4 half marathons to date. I hope to continue running when I become a mom with the goal of inspiring healthy habits for the next generation.

  39. I started running in High School after my older brother started running cross country. I ran cross country and track for 8 years in high school and college. My running slowed down when I left college, but I still managed to run two marathons over the past 15 years. I am trying to loose a little weight and get back to running some road races. And I would like to say Hi Jane. I ran with Jason in college. He was a good inspiration to work hard, and a good friend. I am glad Jason found someone with a passion to run that matches his own.
