Home Sweet Home

WELL, after traveling for 13 days, visiting 2 beaches, getting the tan of a shrimp boat captain and enjoying long drives and chats with my husband, we are HOME!  I have never been so glad to be here!  While I do love an adventure, traveling, seeing new places and new sites, relaxing, and beach time, I get weary of all the people (tourists), noise, strange beds, strange foods, strange showers, etc.  That always makes coming home just as wonderful as leaving home to embark on these trips.

The trip started on May 9 when Jason and I headed to Destin, Florida for a work project (his, not mine).  I enjoyed my morning runs, naps, reading by the pool, beach walks, naps, a pleasant day visiting my old stomping grounds, and more naps, but after a while I was ready for something else.  Our condo had some air-conditioning issues and we had some very loud neighbors who liked to go to the pool at 11:00p.m.  Thankfully, I could get a nap after an evening of little sleep.  Poor Jason could not.  I went for a run in the mornings, usually followed by breakfast and a swim in the pool or a walk on the beach.  I would read and nap, do my pilates and weights videos, write a little and wait for Jason to get back so we could eat and go get some delicious frozen yogurt. Our last night there, Jason and I went out for seafood and walked on the beach holding hands.  My favorite.  We were glad to head out when we finally left on May 18.

The Mom-to-be on Mother's Day at 28 weeks pregnant
But we weren't headed home.  No sir!  We headed up the coast to Charleston, South Carolina where Jason's brother would be getting married.   We drove for about 5 or 6 hours before stopping in a little town about 4 hours from Charleston.  We had a good night's sleep in a cool and quiet hotel and then got up the next morning to finish our drive to Charleston and run the Riverdogs Run Forrest Run 5k. We found this little race when we were looking for things to do before heading to the Wild Dunes Resort where we'd be staying and attending the wedding.

The race was so fun!  Jason won the whole thing, which was just awesome (especially since he couched it into a 20 mile day) and I finished in 27:36, which made me happy.  I wasn't sure what I'd be able to do out there. Running in Florida had been tough and I wasn't sure if it was the heat or the progressing pregnancy.  I took it easy, with splits of 9:14, 9:22, 8:40.  The finish line was on the home plate of the Joseph P. Riley Jr. Ballpark.  All the Riverdogs baseball players high-fived us as we ran through.  The race was followed by a baseball game, and Jason and I couldn't really stay for it, but we came through with our tickets in order to get our free Riverdogs tube socks.  Jason received a Bubba Gump Shrimp bucket full of all kinds of goodies for winning the race and then we stopped for a quick bite at Atlanta Bread Company (where a kid told us we looked "tight" in our matching shirts and tube socks) before heading to the resort to meet up with his family.

Not the best lighting, but here we are post-race in our Riverdogs attire.
We arrived at the Wild Dunes resort later that night on May 19 and the happy couple got married the afternoon on the 20th. They were getting married in a big beach house where we were all invited to stay.  It was lovely!  First it was lovely because the evenings were cool and rainy.  Since our condo in Florida had some air conditioning issues and Florida is just plain hot, it was lovely to be in a new place with cool, refreshing, rainy breezes.  I slept that night with a window open and the cool rainy wind on my face (and I slept like the dead!).  I even needed a jacket for that first morning walk on the beach!

Going for a morning walk on the South Carolina coast.
I really enjoyed the differences in the two beaches we were visiting and South Carolina was beautiful.  The happy couple was married on Sunday and then we enjoyed a few more beach days before heading home on May 22.  Jason and I visited the aquarium in Charleston and enjoyed some delicious (pregnancy safe) seafood, which are two of our favorite things to do.  All in all, a wonderful trip, and that is why things have been a little quiet on the ole blog front.  However, I have lots to write about.  I want to write about Jason's Gulf Coast Triathlon, and my latest doctor's appointment.  For now, I am HOME SWEET HOME and getting my nesting on!

29 weeks pregnant!
